I can't stand up for falling down

I am just not in the mood for maxis at the moment.
They are all gorgeous but I am feeling swamped
by all those metres of fabric
- don't fence me in, daddy-o -
and I'm just not wearing them.

So after consulting with darling Vanessa
I have taken the plunge and chopped a maxi.
And I am very happy with the result...
What do you think?

Here are a few other maxis that I am considering chopping... should I?

This divine red poly 1960s maxi is an old fave...

This gorgeous 1970s brushed cotton frock was a gift
from mi amor Helgita Burrita.

Another old treasure, this 1970s canary yellow nylon maxi
is getting a bit scruffy these days...

I think I already prefer it shorter.

And this one is such a beauty... It was a gift from darling Curtise and I absolutely adore it - look at the collar and cuff details.. but it does feel a little overwhelming to wear.

And here's a little moment from my day... I have a house full of my fabulous family at the moment and my awesome sister in law whipped up a couple of delcious baked treats this afternoon. Here are the banana cakes cooling on the kitchen bench. One gluten free for me and one with extra gluten for everybody else.

What's a girl to do when holding baby in one arm and
cake in the other? Bugger cutlery. I'm not sharing.

Look how big Maximus Prime is getting!

So what do you say... to chop or not to chop?

I'd chop the pink and yellow ones and keep the red and black/white ones long. Just a feeling!

Chop 'em all! I think the red one would look really good as a mini!

Yes, amor chop them Maxis like you just don't care.

Mmmmm now craving banana bread. I cant believe how fast Max is growing. He is looking so much like your twin brother.

Chop the purple and the yellow. Maybe the bulky blue one will have a cool cowgirl feel if you chop it at the knee and wear with boots. PLEASE DON'T CHOP THE RED ONE!!!!!

Deffo chop the yellow frock and maybe the purple one too and I'd add a belt. The cakes look delish, think I feel a baking sesh coming on.

Hmmm, I'm thinking the yellow, the red one and the polka dot with the collar would likely do well if they were chopped to just above the knee, because of the shape. Not so sure about the purple patterned one. As much as I love seeing you, Curtise, and Vix in your marvelous maxis, I do find that you need to be tall, and very confident in your style to carry them off as it is a lot of fabric. I have a few long skirts that I really like, but I find it hard to style them so they look contemporary and flattering.

Definitey to chop! I'm not a big fan of maxi's anyway but those dresses would be so cute as knee length and I'm sure you could make something delightful with the fabric cut off's x

I'm undecided on the red maxi. I would keep the length on the yellow. It's just so flowy and pretty and you at that length, in my opinion. I would make the Helgita dress super mod short and put on some bitchin long 60's boots with it, and have your hair all long and sex kittenish a la Austin Powers' Mrs Kensington.

Love the photos of Maximus Prime, as well as your niece! How cute are those kiddos?!?

They are all gorgeous and you do rock a maxi, but I know what you mean. Taken up they have a new lease of life. I'm gonna chop one I bought from Nelly because I don't do maxis at all. So, I say chop. I think the last one would definitely benefit from it.

CHOP CHOP CHOP. You have a great figure and look fabulous in that chopped dress.

The banana cakes look pretty damn good, too.

They're super cute dresses, but I can see them all chopped. If you're not going to wear them as is, I say chop em! But if you're like me and change your mind all the time, maybe just chop one fave and one not-so-fave, and leave another fave and not-so-fave intact. That way if you have any regrets, you'll still have a fab maxi or two hanging around!

Chop!Chop!Chop!
I've done this a few times myself and I've never regretted it! Of course, if the dress in question was "important" designer vintage, I'd think twice, but for just your basic run-of-the-mill stuff? Why not?
I think every single one of those would look better short. Then you can make something fun with the leftover fabric, too.
Lets see the after pix :-)

Chop the black and white one. Just above knee. Boots. Fishnets. Work in winter. Noice. (With matching headband, and boot bling from offcuts)

OMG those cannisters. *swoon, swoon*

Do you know that I didn't realise you had an etsy store? I just thought you likes clothes - a lot. And wore many outfits each day. LOL!

If you're just not wearing them, chop!Especially the canary yellow,I love it,and it will suit being short much more!!!
I know,it seems like sacrilege, but I've done it plenty of times, and will continue to do so!If you keep the excess, and decide one day you're bummed about the chop, you could creatively sewn it back on anyways!
Gluten free banana bread with baby on top!?Double helping, please!
Love you more than canaries!

Oh my what a dilemma? To chop or not to chop? To eat yummy nana cake or let it dry out? I say you need to go with your gut baby, just like you did with the cake, you employed some ingenuity:)). When I'm deciding whether to chop I usually have a plan for the off-cut. Thank you Saint Sarah for sharing the glory of your beautiful frocks!! xoxoxoxox

That last one and the VERY purple one could stand a trim. I'd love to see all the coloured tights & shoes you could wear with them!

Your hair is looking perfectly fluffy & gorgeous. x

Yay Sarah that looks amazing!!!
It was lovely to talk about the short and long of frocks, tee hee.
You have such a great syle.
Oh oh I think the buttercup dress would be so so cute shorter.
The wee man is gorgeous he has grown so much.

chop the yellow and red and keep the patterned ones? The yellow definitely, you look fab in everything anyway

I love all your dresses and even if I'm a famous scissorhands, sometimes I felt guilty of too much chopping, especially for the vintage pieces, because I'm always worried that someday I'll need them to be longer again! But looking at the first dress you've chopped I think is stunning on you, so maybe you have to do it, except for the maxi red dress, it's an evening classic and maybe you'll miss it one day!

Oh oh oh - I don't know!
You know how I love a maxi, but you still have plenty of maxis, right? So a few altered ones wouldn't be the end of the world, would it?
The one you've already done looks fab; the red one - oh please don't, it's so perfect as it is! The pink print - yeah, maybe; yellow would look cute short, I reckon. And the one I sent I think would look good around knee/midi length, 50s style and pop a petticoat underneath.
There - that helped, didn't it?!
Your lovely S-I-L is a baking genius, not surprised you got stuck right in there. Max is looking away in horror - where are your manners, Aunty Sarah, and your cake fork?
You can wear any old length you like, you'll always look like a goddess to me! xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I vote for the chop. You can always keep the chopped off bits and re attach them if you get the urge for long again. You have such fabulous legs so get them out there, share those legs with the world, CHOP THE FROCKS!! ♥

Terri said...

I say chop the one with the excellent collar that Curtise sent and the yellow. But do NOT chop the red one.

I'm eating popcorn as I type in a similar fashion as you are eating your banana bread.
