Questo non è posto per i deboli di cuore

So I popped into the op shop today and picked up a couple of fifty cent fabric scraps...

and one of the 'scraps' was this kaftan!

The Fifty Cent Kaftan might be my best bargain ever!

More little corners of my house are coming together...
I think I'm putting down roots. Every day I love it here a little bit more.

I wore:
Kaftan, bangles, sunnies and vintage Native American bracelets worn as choker - op shopped
Hair flowers - Retail, vintage store and made it myself
Vintage cocktail ring - Gift from our darling Vix

I also picked up the 'Dripping' aluminium pot -
perfect for a potted flower on my little verandah.

And look at this amazing item that was at the Tip Shop today:

Sorry about the terrible photo - taken with my phone

It's an old stainless steel surgical (autopsy?) table.

Macabre and marvellous!

A quick google search and I found out that Elliott Bros Ltd was bought out by
a pharmaceutical company in 1929, so this table must be at least 83 years old.
I want to buy it but I have absolutely no idea what I would do with it.
Not that that usually stops me from buying wildly inappropriate bits of nonsense.

And I did enjoy the sense of humour of the Tip Shop Man
displaying those rusty old saws on the table.

Do you have Tip Shops where you live?

The one in town is supremely clean and organised and very tidy.
They sell homewares, pots for plants, timber, wheelbarrows, birdcages, outdoor furniture,
tools, kennels, fencing, furniture, books (!), crockery, lamps, paintings and wall hangings, toys... Anything that people throw away and is still in working order is rescued from the landfill, given a quick wipe down and put in the shop. The prices are very reasonable and
they are reusing, recycling and reducing landfill. Yay for Tip Shops!

So shall we just have one more look at my Fifty Cent Kaftan...

Yep, it's a keeper!

50 cents what a bargain for the Kaftan queen!!! I've never been to Perth's tip shop but I want to. He he that table is very cool, I hope you can think of a reason to buy it.

We have "recycling centres" that seem to be some sort of members only affair. You can buy straight from the tip itself, but that's a rather uncomfortable experience (was asked if I was a lesbian) but did get a free victorian chair out of it. That table is terrifying! But quite tempting.

The Kaftan Queen strikes again! Bargain frock - scraps indeed!
Good for you, feeling settled and "rooting". Hope the work situation resolves itself so you can stay in your lovely little nest.
Tip shop? Hmmm, don't know if they have that concept here, never heard of it (and I know plenty of thrifty skip-diving folk who would know that sort of information...) Perhaps I should ring the dump and find out.
That table is rather fabulous in a gruesome way - I agree with Nelly, it would be great in the garden, either for a work table or to display pots. The saws are a fine touch! xxxxxxxxxxxxx

50 cents?!? That's awesome! But you're the master of making anything look fabulous. I'd walk past it and think it would look awful on me, but on you with the fun accessories, it's wonderful!

Well, we have thrift shops here, but maybe they're a bit different.

Just looking at that table gave me *shivers & creeps*
Mighy not help that I watched a movie called "The Ward" lastnight and it had a morgue in it. *hahaha*
But any sort of thing that had to do with people no longer alive gives me the heebies.

You do look fabulously wonderful in that sweet kaftan though...
And I swear yellow was made STRICTLY FOR YOU!

Awesome kaftan love the colours. I was going to suggest the same as Nelly for the table. My other thought was if it lowers down far enough why not get and use it for an outdoor table setting........great conversation piece. Imagine it with a table cloth, with fabric with day of the dead skulls on it and a pot plant with some lovely flowers.......go on Hun get it I think you could do it justice and give it a new home.

Our local Dump has a shop and it is pretty good. Usually get magazines for 50cents and other bits and bobs. AMazing what people throw out, so YAY for dump shops!! Kaftan is awesome and looks super duper on you. I have one on Trade Me I am selling at the mo, full length, same style in a bright red batik fabric. If only I had known, could have sent it to you!!

I've never heard of a Tip Shop though we do have thrifts that specialize in cookware. I think you should snap up the surgery/autopsy table and use it as some sort of DINING table!

Love the kaftan! It is gorgeous, and well worth the 50c. I don't know what you would use the little autopsy table for, but it is pretty damn cool. I know the some of the tips in Brisbane have shops attached, but I haven't been to one since I was little.

We do have Goodwill thrift stores here that sell items that have been donated, but it tends to be mostly junk. That surgical table is sooooo COOL, there must be SOMETHING you can use it for!
